Perseverance…

The difference between perseverance and obstinacy is that one comes from a strong will, and the other from a strong won’t.

~Henry Ward Beecher

In running a small business I am finding perseverance to be key.  It is difficult at times to stay focused and committed…especially when you are trying to run that business from home.  I am resolved to continue no matter how big the obstacle.  (Or how small–sometimes a 7 year old daughter can put the brakes on for me faster than just about anything else!)

Persistence-

The best tip I have found lately is to keep a list.  In the morning I take a few minutes to gather my thoughts and make a list.  Then I stick to it with a vengeance.  It helps keep the detours to a minimum and I am achieving more of my goals now that I am actively setting them.

Share your tips with me.  What do you recommend?  How do you Persevere?

It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.  ~Albert Einstein

Mind your Beeswax… ;)

It is estimated that bees fly 150,000 miles, roughly six times around the earth, to yield one pound of beeswax (530,000 km/kg).

For each pound of beeswax provided by a honey bee, the bee visits 33 million flowers. It eats 8-10 pounds of honey.

The bee secretes the beeswax from its abdomen, and then uses the wax to construct a honeycomb. When the bees make one pound of beeswax into comb, it will hold 22 pounds of honey.  Beekeepers recover the wax from the comb by heating it in water where the melted wax rises to the surface and can be removed.

Beeswax

Beeswax has been used since the beginning of civilization. It has been found in the pharaohs’ tombs, sunken Viking ships and Roman ruins. Beeswax is basically the duct tape of old, with thousands of uses and indispensable.
Beeswax does not go bad and has been recovered from ancient ship wrecks heated up and is still usable. The oldest known notebooks used sheets of beeswax for pages. Recovered from ancient Mediterranean shipwrecks, stylus marks pressed in the wax pages can still be read after centuries on the sea floor.

Beeswax

Healing and spiritual powers have been attributed to all products of the beehive. Honey has always been considered holy, a gift from God, and endowed with esoteric and mystical qualities. The Path of Pollen, or bee shamanism, is a calling into the secrets of healing, longevity, and spiritual powers of bee products, including honey, wax, and pollen. The Hebrew word for bee is dbure, meaning word, with the message being that the bee brings the Divine word. Specifically beeswax candles are designated for the Christian Roman Mass.

Magical Candles

Beeswax candle fuel is the only fuel that actually produces negative ions, which not only helps remove pollution from the air but increases the ratio of negative ions to positive ions, the ideal and necessary scenario for clean air.

Air contains billions of electrically charged particles called ions. Ions act upon our capacity to absorb and utilize oxygen, and therefore cause powerful effects on our lives and well being. The ions in the air can affect our mood, energy and health. Negative ions actually feel good. Too many positive ions make us feel bad and they are loaded down with pollution and allergens that are drawn to them and suspended in the air. Negative ions, on the other hand, remove the pollution and allergens from positive ions, allowing them to drop harmlessly to the ground.

Beeswax candles are recommended by the American Lung Association.

Many have written about the wisdom of the beehive, and how burning beeswax puts a person in a special mood of reverence. It is easy to imagine why, given that millions of flowers have been visited and pollinated to make any one beeswax candle!

The healthiest of all human emotions is Gratitude…

In this world of downturns and difficulty it is easy to give in to the negative vibe around us…I think that is even more reason we should hold on to gratefulness.

Gratitude will not only make you healthy and happy, it will also change your perspective in life.  Happy people basically focus on others; unhappy people focus on themselves and wallow in self-pity and doubt.  Grateful people are far more optimistic and see whatever circumstances they’re in as an opportunity for good.

Gratitude sweetens our disposition, brightens our day, and encourages those around us.  Gratitude will help make us healthy, is the antidote for every negative emotion in our lives, and that virtually every negative thought – anger, worry, fear, hostility or doubt – has at its root ingratitude.

This holds true not just in business but in life…my grandpa always said you do not have to be Happy to be Grateful.  Think about how you feel attracted to a positive person with passion- it draws friends and customers alike.

Sure, this does not come easy for everyone, or in every situation.  Here is a video by Zig Ziglar that speaks to me…make that list, I did and I can tell you, you will NEVER regret it!

People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.

What are you grateful for?  Leave us a comment and let’s start a list!  🙂

Working on moisture rich lotion formulas :)

Today we are testing some great moisture rich lotions.

Abyssinian Oil

One of the oils we are LOVING in our lotion is Abyssinian oil, a natural seed oil with an ultra light, non-greasy skin feel.

Abyssinian oil has a unique molecular structure not found in any other naturally occurring substance. It contains a high percentage of unsaturated C22 fatty acids, making it highly resistant to oxidation.

It is a non-GMO vegetable plant derived oil with a mild, pleasant odor. It is biodegradable and not-toxic and is never tested on animals…well unless our friends count, some of you *are* animals! 😉

Who says nourishing moisture rich lotion has to be greasy?  Not us!!! ❤

We will post our final products soon stay tuned… ❤  TGIF!!!

Fragrance Notes…

Here are some explanations of fragrance notes that will help you decide on your favorites!

perfume-bottles

Fragrance Notes-Perfume is described in a musical metaphor as having three sets of ‘notes’, making the harmonious scent accord. The notes unfold over time, with the immediate impression of the top note leading to the deeper middle notes, and the base notes gradually appearing as the final stage. These notes are created carefully with knowledge of the evaporation process of the perfume.

  • Top notes: The scents that are perceived immediately on application of a perfume. Top notes consist of small, light molecules that evaporate quickly. They form a person’s initial impression of a fragrance and thus are very important in the sellingof a perfume. Also called the head notes.
  • Middle notes: The scent of a perfume that emerges just prior to when the top notes dissipate. The middle note compounds form the “heart” or main body of a perfume and act to mask the often unpleasant initial impression of base notes, which become more pleasant with time. They are also called the “heart notes”.
  • Base notes: The scent of a perfume that appears close to the departure of the middle notes. The base and middle notes together are the main theme of a perfume. Base notes bring depth and solidity to a perfume. Compounds of this class of scents are typically rich and “deep” and are usually not perceived until 30 minutes after application.

The Fragrance Wheel is a relatively new classification method that is widely used in retail and in the fragrance industry. The method was created in 1983 by Michael Edwards, a consultant in the perfume industry, who designed his own scheme of fragrance classification. The new scheme was created in order to simplify fragrance classification and naming scheme, as well as to show the relationships between each of the individual classes.

The five standard families consist of Floral, Oriental, Woody, Fougère, and Fresh, with the former four families being more “classic” while the latter consisting of newer bright and clean smelling citrus and oceanic fragrances that have arrived due to improvements in fragrance technology. Each of the families are in turn divided into sub-groups and arranged around a wheel.
