Sweet Dreams Essential Oil linen spray~

Many members of my family are sensitive to the fragrance in commercial laundry softeners and dryer sheets.  Here is a great alternative that I use.

This is a recipe I use for linen spray to add natural beneficial fragrance to our sheets and towels.  (I also have first hand knowledge that it makes a fantastic Monster Banishing Spray for little ones to spray under the bed before sleep).

  • 4 oz. clean spray bottle with a fine mist setting (do not use a bottle that previously contained cleaning products or hair products such as hair spray).
  • 30-40 drops of your favorite calming/relaxing or sensual essential oil or essential oil blend keeping the safety data of the chosen essential oil(s) in mind.
  • 1.5 ounces of distilled water and 1.5 ounces of high-proof alcohol (vodka is suitable, rubbing alcohol is not) or 3 ounces of distilled water.

This is my favorite blend:

  • 15 drops Sandalwood- relaxing, soothing, cooling, and sensual. It promotes restful sleep and helps to ease an anxious mind. It’s considered an aid in meditation and prayer- It is grounding in times of emotional distraction and aids with peace and acceptance in times of loss. In vapor therapy, Sandalwood Oil can be used to help clear bronchitis, coughs, chest infections, asthma, insomnia and irritability.
  • 15 drops Grapefruit or Bergamot-(I love the Bergamot)- used in the treatment of depression, stress, tension, fear, hysteria, infection (all types including skin), anorexia, psoriasis, eczema and general convalescence.
  • 2 drops Rose- an exotic aphrodisiac, an emollient in skin care products, and a balancer of the spirit.
  • 2 drops Jasmine- a sensual, soothing, calming oil that promotes love and peace.

Be sure and take heed in the safety data for the oil(s) you choose to use.

Directions: Fill the spray bottle with your choice of either 1.5 ounces of distilled water and 1.5 ounces of alcohol or 3 ounces of distilled water. (Even though a 4 oz. bottle is suggested, leave about 1 oz. unfilled so you can shake the bottle well between uses.)

Then, add 30-40 drops of essential oil. Essential oils can very in strength. You may want to try 20 drops at first especially if you or your partner are sensitive to strong aromas. Shake the bottle prior to each use, and let it sit for about a day before making a conclusion that the aroma is too weak; the aroma can change after the linen spray has had time to sit. Mist your sheets lightly. Be especially careful not to allow the mist to fall onto your skin, furniture or into open beverages. Be careful also to only use lightly colored essential oils otherwise your linen spray could stain your bed linens.

Sweet Dreams! ❤

Muchness & Madness…

Yesterday I was lucky enough to get to have some girl time with my 8 year old daughter Bella.  We went to see Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland together.  During the film a few of the lines struck me to the core.

Bella & I on our girls day.

Posted by Jill Brown (see her full article here). “I think the most compelling scene in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and the one that resonated the most with me personally and will with all the single minded women out there, comes about half way through the film when Alice is doubting her significance and role. She doesn’t believe she’s been to Underland before, thinking her previous voyage was just a bad childhood dream and so she doesn’t want to step up and help the Mad Hatter in his rebellion and resistance against the Red Queen. While she expresses her reluctance to take action, the Mad Hatter says to her something along the lines of, “You used to be much more…”muchier.” Yes you were much more Alice the last time we met.   You have lost your muchness.”
This causes Alice to wonder if she has in fact lost her “Muchness.”

It was funny timing to hear such a quote, because the day before I had a very uncomfortable talk with someone that cared enough to tell me the ugly truth.  I had lost my muchness! “Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance.”
-Proverbs 27:17

As a mom that works outside the home and also runs her own business you can imagine that things in my home are sometimes chaotic.  Every now and then I *gasp* fail.  I cannot be all things to all people and still have “me” left, so it comes down to a matter of prioritizing.

I decided to face what he told me, dry my tears and run with it.  I am taking the weekend to rededicate and zero in on my family & business with laser like pinpoint focus.  I have several things in need finishing and organizing-they are getting done NOW!  If it is something you love and have a passion for, it is worth putting all of the effort in to see it though.

Part of what I am accomplishing will be finalizing our new product line.  We have simplified, and pared down quite a bit-but I believe the remaining and new products are fragrant little pieces of magic that can be ready in a fraction of the time.  I am also going to feature limited editions and one of a kinds.

What are your favorite products?  What products would you like to see Blue Moon Candles keep and offer?

Have you lost some of your Muchness?  What are you planning to Get it Back?

Putting your problems into perspective… Wordless Wednesday

Hotel Costes is finally here! :)

We have been buried under requests for this fragrance duplication, and at long last we have a blend that is Ahhhhmazing!

Hotel Costes is exclusive, hip, over-the-top and located in the heart of Paris.

Their house perfume — in its deep red bottle — became an immediate cult classic upon its introduction in 2004.

We receive more requests for this super-complex, super-chic fragrance than any other. We have searched high and low for a blend we loved with no luck…until Now!  (If you’ve never smelled the real thing, you’re in for an amazing treat!).

Our blend opens with spicy green top notes of natural cypress, basil, cardamom, lemon, nutmeg, black pepper, and cinnamon oil. The top notes give way to a spicy floral middle of rose and jasmine along with essential oils of lavender and clove bud. The bottom notes of this fragrance — which create an amazing accord that lasts and lasts — consist of essential oils of sandalwood, cedarwood, and patchouli, sweetened with a bit of  musk. This fragrance is truly unique — it’s almost like three fragrances in one as a medley of bright, green essential oils give way to an irresistible spice blend, which then leads to a long-lived, soapy clean, woodsy drydown.

This fragrance struck me as different when I first smelled it, I immediately picked up on the notes of cardamom and black pepper.  I was not sure what all the fuss was about…until I put it down.  I could not forget it and was drawn back to pick it up and re sniff about a hundred times.  It is as haunting as it is beautiful.  I am a fragrance addict to be sure, but this is truly love. ❥

Due to the cost of pure essential oils this fragrance is a bit more costly to use in candles.  (Running about an additional $12.00 for our largest size candle-we have decided to keep the price increase amount to what will cover our cost only, so this will allow more of our friends and customers to enjoy this wonderful fragrance! ).

I wear mine in our new Apothecary style perfume that will be listed very shortly…stay tuned.  😀
